Sporting injuries

With all sports there is the possibility for injury to occur. Physiotherapy can assist with injuries of all natures including bruises, sprains/strains, dislocations and muscle tears. Our physiotherapists also have experience in diagnosing and treating more complex injuries such as rotator cuff pathologies, ligamentous and meniscal injuries and acute or stress fractures. Regardless of the sport our Physiotherapists will be able to work with you and your medical team to provide individualised management and rehabilitation to safely return you to your desired level of activity.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a technique used only by specifically trained professionals for the management of pain and injury. Dry needling is used to target tight bands of muscle or myofascial trigger points within the muscle. Thin needles are used by inserting them into the muscle causing stimulation of the muscle and often muscle twitches in aim to relax/release muscle tightness. Dry Needling normally requires more than one treatment session and will likely be used in conjunction with other manual therapy techniques and exercise. Dry Needling can be useful in the treatment of a variety of conditions including sporting injuries, muscular dysfunction and chronic pain.

Back and neck injuries

Back and neck pain are associated as one of the leading costs on Australia’s healthcare system. One in six Australians report back or neck pain every year. Back and neck pain can vary in location from the base of the skull to the tip of the tail bone and can be referred to broadly as spinal pain. Spinal pain can occur as a result of an acute injury or build up over time which is often referred to as chronic pain. Physiotherapists are trained in a variety of modalities to treat spinal pain including manual therapy, joint mobilisation, dry needling and exercise prescription to target the treatment and management of a variety of spinal conditions.

Falls Prevention

Falls can occur for a variety of reasons whether it be due to a loss of balance, trip, slip or diagnosed condition. Falls are most common in our elderly population with people over the age of 65 more prone to falls. Falls also occur more commonly in women than men. Unfortunately falls are Australia’s leading cause of injury hospitalisations and account for 43% of injuries requiring hospitalisations. Over 70% of falls are as a result of stairs or a step.

Physiotherapists have the knowledge and experience to assess a person’s risk of falls and identify environmental factors that may increase the likelihood of falls occurring. Physiotherapists are able to conduct home/community based assessments related to falls prevention and provide education to family and carers on how to ensure their loved ones remain safe. Physiotherapist can also design and implement falls prevention programs to further lower a person’s risk of falls.

Strength, Conditioning and Rehabilitation

Strength and conditioning (S&C) is the selection and development of dynamic and static exercises used to improve physical performance. Typically used in sporting populations and with athletes S&C is now widely used across the general population as well. S&C is used to develop every area of the body and improve the way a person moves. Strength and Conditioning training involves a wide range of exercises developed to build a variety of skills with a focus on mind, mobility, stability, strength, endurance, power, speed, agility and performance. Beneficial for people of different ages and abilities and can help older people maintain and improve their health and quality of life. Our Physiotherapists have completed further training in strength and conditioning and are registered with The Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA)
